At the end of the Vieux Port, just behind the Quick you'll find the Tourist information Center, they've just been equiped with nice, new, green apple computers and seem to have all the information you ask for at their fingertips. If it's busy then pick one of the hostesses and wait next to her desk, either she'll look after you or her colleague will come along and politely ask you if she can help. They'll give a map of the town, and leaflets of all the landmarks. You can also follow one of their organised walks. If you arrive at about 2pm you may suprisingly find lots and lots of people, they're all waiting to go on the guided visits of Marseilles.
