Well I must admit that there isn't quite enough pubs to go round, you'll
find 3 well known pubs around Marseille, two Irish and one very English
(though the basic Marseillais can't notice the difference), they are however
all very different, at least the Marseillais men drink pints, you won't
find many women (other that English speaking), they're not going out types.
The Red Lion, 231 av Pierre Mendes-France, 13008, 04
91 25 17 17. Opposite the beaches, this pub always seems to be full to
the brim, the barmen are all English speaking. . Good atmoshere, often
has live music and football. Definately worth a visit.
Then there's the Shamrock, a little further along the vieux port, 16, quai rive Neuve, 13001 Marseille, also on the vieux port. Get there early (before) ten o'clock. I prefer this pub it's only open since march, they're happy to see the customers and you'll even get a shamrock in the head of your guiness if you're lucky. Pretty good music and on tuesdays they have a very good band on live. You'll find English speaking people amongst the french.
Then there's the Irish pub, O'Malleys, 9, quai Rive Neuve, 13001, 04 91 33 65 50 on the vieux port.Unfortunately this pub seems to have been taken over by the French, all the barpersons speak English and there are a few Irish ones there, somewhere! They too have live music, mostly in the week and have all the big football, rugby, etc... matches live, they have a very good cherry beer. This was "the" pub that catered for the thousands during the world cup.
Don't forget that a Karaoke in France is normally
in french, there's nothing worse than listening to a poor french man singing
'Black is Black' in french.
